The Audiophile Boutique is an initiative of Broadcast Canada, a company operating in Montreal since 1972. We were originally set up to produce syndicated radio broadcasts, hence our name. In 1984, we purchased an audio magazine called Hi-Fi Sound. Five years later it became UHF: Ultra High Fidelity. Today, UHF Magazine is read on every continent except Antarctica.

Though publishing quickly became Broadcast Canada's major business, a retail store known as The Audiophile Store was added in the 1980's. Starting with only a couple of audiophile labels, the store grew to much larger proportions, and took on an added role. The eight-page insert for the store found in every issue is a series of ads no one can take away from us. That has allowed UHF to have an editorial policy it could ill afford without it.

By 1990 the store (and the magazine) was accepting credit cards for magazines, books, recordings and accessories. In 1996 it got its first presence on the Internet, propelling it far beyond its borders.

Our approach has always been the same. The magazine is designed to help music lovers (and now movie lovers) choose satisfying home systems, rather than to sell whatever is new. The Audiophile Store carries only products that we use ourselves, or that we would recommend to our best friends. The Audiophile Boutique has exactly the same policy.
